Groundbreaking Progress in the SWFC/Wednesdayite Relationship

Category:   Wednesdayite News | Author:   JamesHargreaves

Yesterday, at the invitation of the SWFC Board, Wednesdayite Chairman Darryl Keys and Vice Chairman John Gath met in a 3 hour meeting with Directors Ashley Carson, Ken Cooke, Geoff Hulley and CEO Kaven Walker.

Both organisations indicated a genuine desire to work together in a process of change and a desire to listen to each other's perspectives.

The takeover was not part of the discussions - the club is governed by takeover panel regulations and pointed out that bids had only been received by individual shareholders and in that sense it was a matter for them to decide on what discussions they might or might not have.

Wednesdayite will attempt to make direct contact with these shareholders individually.

A wide range of issues were discussed in a constructive manner including:

  • The background of the Chairmanship at SWFC
  • SWFC Board matters
  • PR and communication
  • Ticket pricing and initiatives to increase attendances
  • Commercial initiatives
  • Wednesdayite member services
  • Community matters
  • Legal action position
  • SWFC Academy
  • Financial matters
  • Ground safety & facilities
  • Involvement of the local business community

Whilst we are not at liberty to outline the detail, we are encouraged by this openness and in many areas we have agreed follow up actions. This is a great stepping stone but we would also stress that not everything is going to happen and be achieved overnight - some of the issues are complex and need a lot of thought.

We believe we have made groundbreaking progress and in addition to the above we are pleased to report:

  • Wednesdayite are free to utilise SWFC facilities
  • A commitment to regular in-depth dialogue at Board level
  • Direct communication for Wednesdayite with the SWFC CEO whose door will be open to discuss any issue
  • SWFC will accept donations from Wednesdayite for specific causes and will produce a wishlist
  • Link on the SWFC website to Wednesdayite's site

Both parties wish to commit to a process of change and desire to move forward together. We encourage everyone to support this process.
