Wednesdayite helps out Sheffield Speedway Hero's Big day - Raising £384

Wednesdayite will be helping out this Sunday by providing car park facilities to Speedway fans.

Our chairman , Paul Holmes, was contacted by Andy Deakin of Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday afternoon to see if we could assist our local sporting neighbours, Sheffield Speedway, with the use of the Wednesdayite Car park on this Sunday (22nd March 2015).

On finding out that the event was a benefit event for ex-rider , Ricky Ashworth, who suffered life changing injuries and brain damage in a speedway crash in August 2013, Paul agreed with Ian Hunter , of Sheffield Window Centre and Sheffield Speedway that we would charge £3 for each car with the full proceeds going to Ricky's fund.

It would be great if this offer was matched by the owner of the Owlerton stadium car park as well, giving the days car park takings and boosting the funds .

UPdtae this raised £384 towards Ricky's funds and many who parked there were grateful to be able to contribute in this way,

Julian Batty - Rest in Peace

Our sympathies go out to to Jean, John, Helen and all Julian's family on the very sad news that Julian passed away today.

We pay tribute to a great supporter of SWFC and Wednesdayite. Julian loved SWFC and also loved cycling so much so he took part in both our Coast to Coast charity bike ride and also the Brentford to Bluebell Wood ride at the end of April 2012. We reproduce below Julian's account of the time on the road, with a few pictures of Julian included.

Rest in Peace Julian , you will be sadly missed

I knew something was kicking off on Tuesday when I got 20 missed calls from unknown numbers (the majority turned out to be press, following google searches of the numbers), I choose not to return these as I had no information, so for those of you who think we chase the press please think again.
